The initial process for getting orthodontic
braces
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
"What usually happens during an initial orthodontic exam? |
In order to determine your specific needs, the orthodontist will
completely evaluate your mouth. This will likely include:
If any of our doctors determines that a malocclusion or bad bite exists or is developing, they will schedule an orthodontic consult with Dr. Jen Kin. He will determine if orthodontics is necessary at this time. Dr. Jen Kin treats both children and adults. He is particularly focused on children in the primary and mixed dentition (having both primary and adult teeth in their mouth). His training advocated early treatment and taking advantage of the growing jaws and transitioning into the permanent teeth to help correct bad bites. Most kids can be finished by the end of Junior High School with orthodontics. Relapse is not a problem with proper wear of retainers and periodic check ups at our office.

Your orthodontist will then carefully evaluate your specific needs
and provide you with a treatment plan for correction. Following the
recommended plan is important for proper correction. |

"What are spacers?" |
Teeth normally fit tightly against one another. Spacers are inserted
before placement of your braces to provide some space between teeth for
attaching the bands. There are two types of spacers, small springs or
plastic modules. In just a few days they gently move desired teeth
slightly apart.
Spacers often cause some soreness, but this goes away in a few days.
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to relieve the irritation. Your
normal chewing also helps to get your mouth feeling better. |

"What do I do if a spacer comes out?" |
Call your orthodontist immediately for a replacement. That little spacer
is making just enough room for a comfortable fit for your braces and
plays an important role. For more information about how we can help you with dental braces, call us at (562) 920-1731, we will be happy to talk with you. |
